EI-700 Encoder Interface Module
The EI-700 Encoder Interface Module offers a variety of encoder translation functions in a compact (3” x 3.5” x 3”) and rugged industrial package. With the EI-700, the systems integrator or industrial designer can solve many common interface problems and enhance existing encoder performance in control and measurement systems, while making the signals more compatible or useful in your application. A wide input voltage range (3-30VDC) requires no specialized power supply in most systems. Power input is current limited and reverse voltage protected. Output line drivers are current limited and thermal shutdown protected. Signal voltage level and single-ended/differential selection are configurable in the field. Stand-off or DIN rail mount.

[Product Overview](Rev. A, 379KB, 05/06/04)

The EI-700 series offers options such as:

• Sin/Cos Interpolation.

• Integer and non-integer count division.

• Single encoder in to multi encoder out.

• Signal conversion to many digital formats (Pulse/Direction, Up/Down Pulse, Parallel out, etc.).

• Conversion of encoder signal to many popular serial formats (USB, RS-422/485, CANbus, etc.).

• Analog output of encoder position, speed, or acceleration in many voltage ranges.

• Video synchronization and on-screen-display capabilities.

Signal Translator

EI-701 Encoder Signal Translator

Translates encoder signals between Single Ended and Differential, voltage levels from 5 to 24 VDC and amplifies encoder signals for transmission over long lines. Eight channels (2 encoders with index or 4 encoders w/o index) of open-collector or active-driven outputs. Opto-Isolation available.

EI-702 Encoder Signal Processor

Converts encoder quadrature signals to Pulse/Direction or Up-Pulse/Down-Pulse or conversion of Pulse/Direction or Up-Pulse/Down-Pulse to quadrature with adjustable index period for encoder simulation and testing. Back-step filter feature is also available. Two or four encoder capability. Opto-Isolation available.

Interpolation Processor

EI-711 Quadrature Output

Interpolates Sin/Cos from two encoders up to 8,192 times. Output is quadrature with an index reference from the encoder. Opto-Isolation available.

EI-712 Absolute Output

Interpolates Sin/Cos encoder signals up to 8,192 times. Output is 16 bit Parallel. Encoder Index zeros output. Opto-Isolation available.

EI-713 High Speed Parallel Data Output (Tachyon™)

Interpolates Sin/Cos encoder signals up to 255 times. Three million conversions per second. 24 bit Count Data Output to customer data acquisition. Opto-Isolation available.

Synchronization Processor

EI-721 Non-Integer Encoder Countdown (Omnicoder™)

This module will divide an encoder signal by an integer or non-integer value. When using a sin/cos encoder input, output jitter of less than 1 arc second is possible. Opto-Isolation available.

EI-722 One Encoder Input to Four Encoder Outputs (Multicoder™)

Using the Omnicoder™ technology, this module synchronizes four encoder outputs to a single encoder input. The countdown ratios between the outputs and input encoder can be individually set to integer or non-integer values. Opto-Isolation available.

Analog Output

EI-731 Two-Channel Encoder to Analog Output

Analog outputs can be a variety of voltage ranges with 12 bit resolution. The dual analog outputs can represent position and speed for a single encoder, or with two encoder inputs, each analog channel can represent the position or speed of each encoder. Channels can be summed internally for higher output resolution. Sin/Cos interpolation available.

Serial, USB and BUS Protocol

EI-741 Serial, USB, Industrial Bus Interface

Encoder count data is available over an RS-422/485 port, a USB port, or a variety of industry standard bus protocols such as MODBUS, CAN, SSI or Profibus. Sin/Cos interpolation available.

Video Processor

EI-751 Encoder Capture Synchronized to Video Signal

Encoder count data from up to 4 encoders is captured simultaneously on a trigger from the start of video frame or from an external trigger. Count values are transferred serially in one of the EI-700 supported bus protocols (See EI-741). Sin/Cos interpolation available.

EI-752 On-Screen Video Display of Encoder Count Value

Encoder count data from up to 4 encoders is captured simultaneously on a trigger from the start of video frame or from an external trigger. Encoder count values are added to the video signal for display on a video monitor. Video frame number and text can also be user defined. Sin/Cos interpolation available.
